A New Criterion for Optimizing Coke Quality and Batch Parameters

Abstract

Existing criteria for optimal coke quality used in practice in batch formulation are reviewed. The chemical and petrographic parameters of the optimal batches are presented for various Russian coke plants and for the production of high-quality coke. It is found that the economic indices of blast-furnace operation—such as the coke consumption and productivity—depend more on the mechanical strength M10 of the coke than on M25. A cost–quality criterion is proposed for finding the optimal coke. In contrast to previous criteria, the cost–quality criterion is based on a model for M10, ignoring M25. That simplifies the calculations required to find the optimal batch.
