Abstract

By the example of the synthesis of 5-(triethylsiloxymethyl)norbornene, a simple, one-step approach to the synthesis of silicon-substituted norbornenes based on the reaction of 5-norbornene-2-methanol with hydrosilanes is proposed. The metathesis polymerization of the synthesized monomer is studied. The resulting polymer is high molecular weight, soluble, noncrystalline, highly elastic, and thermally stable.
