МоО 2 /С Composites: Synthesis, Properties, and Formation Mechanism

Abstract—МоO2/С composites comprising monoclinic molybdenum dioxide were manufactured by microwave-assisted hydrothermal treatment of aqueous solutions of peroxomolybdic acid with glucose followed by annealing of the precursor in an inert atmosphere at 500°С. The carbon content in the composites ranged from 8 to 24 wt %. The major physicochemical characteristics of the compounds prepared were determined by X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry, IR and Raman spectroscopy, scanning and electron microscopy, and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. The molar component ratio of the reaction mass, Мо : С6Н12О6 = 1 : (0.25–1.0), was found to be an essential factor that determined the composition, textural and thermal properties of МоО2/С composites, as well as their formation specifics. A formation mechanism of МоО2/С composites was suggested.
