Change of Rheoreaction and Concentration of Thyroid Hormones in Blood of Juvenile Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss during Starvation

Abstract—

Rheoreaction and concentration of thyroid hormones in blood of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss is studied during starvation (12 days). It is found that starvation predominantly stimulates downstream migration of fish and decreases the concentration of total triiodothyronine in the blood. The concentration of total triiodothyronine decreases to a lesser degree in fish moving predominantly upstream. The concentrations of free triiodothyronine and total thyroxine do not change during starvation. The level of total triiodothyronine in fish’s blood is an indicator of their migratory activity.
