1. A benzothiadiazole-based fluorescent sensor for selective detection of oxalyl chloride and phosgene

Oxalyl chloride and phosgene are highly toxic chemicals but are widely used in industrial processes, which have been regarded as a serious threat to our health and public security. Thus, it is imperative to develop a convenient and reliable detection method for these noxious agents. It was reported in this research the rational design of a fluorescent sensor (denoted as BTA) for simultaneously detecting oxalyl chloride and phosgene, in which o-phenylenediamine (OPD) as the reactive recognition site and benzothiadiazole (BTD) as the fluorophore moiety are coupled into one single benzo-fused motif. The probe works in a “turn-on” fluorescence mode due to the formation of piperazine-2,3-dione and 2-imidazolidinone rings by intramolecular cyclization reactions between the OPD part with oxalyl chloride and phosgene, respectively, which greatly inhibits the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) process from two amines to the BTD core in the sensor BTA. The detection limit of oxalyl chloride and phosgene is as low as 3 nM and 20 nM in solutions, respectively. Moreover, the sensor exhibits outstanding selectivity toward oxalyl chloride and phosgene over the nerve-agent mimic diethyl chlorophosphate and various acyl chlorides. Furthermore, a portable test paper with BTA has been facilely fabricated for visual on-site detection of the two toxic chemicals in the gas phase.

2. Transition-metal-free dehydrogenation coupling of pyridinium through a self-promoted hydride transfer process

A transition-metal-free intramolecular cross dehydrogenation coupling reaction of pyridinium was developed. The C(sp2)–H/C(sp2)–H coupling reaction involved an unprecedented intermolecular hydride transfer process from the 1,2-dihydropyridine intermediate to another molecule of pyridinium and formed 1,4-dihydropyridine. Unlike the well-known dehydrogenation coupling proceeded under oxidative conditions, this was the first example of the coupling reaction through a substrate self-promoted hydride transfer process.


云南大学的夏成峰教授及其团队成功开发了一种无过渡金属参与的吡啶鎓分子内交叉脱氢偶联反应。C(sp2)-H/C(sp2)-H键的偶联反应涉及从1,2-二氢吡啶中间体到另一吡啶鎓分子分子间负氢转移的罕见过程,生成1,4-二氢吡啶产物。与人们熟知的氧化条件下进行脱氢偶联的反应有所不同,这是首例通过底物自促进负氢转移过程进行的偶联反应。

1. Using highly emissive and environmentally sensitive o-carborane-functionalized metallophosphors to monitor mitochondrial polarity

Scientists in Nanjing designed and synthesized highly emissive and environmentally sensitive phosphorescent iridium(II) complexes functionalized by o-carborane. One complex was found to be an efficient polarity-sensitive phosphorescent probe, which exhibited a visual colour change as a function of polarity and unique mitochondria affinity. This complex was able to track cell apoptosis and distinguish cancer cells from normal cells, by photoluminescence imaging microscopy.


南京大学的燕红、芦昌盛和南京邮电大学的赵强等研究者设计并合成了高发射性、环境敏感的邻碳硼烷官能化的Ir(II)磷光络合物。研究人员发现其中的一个络合物是一种有效的极性敏感磷光探针,具有独特的线粒体亲和力,还可随极性的不同而发生可见色彩变化。在光致发光成像显微镜检测中,该络合物可用于以跟踪细胞凋亡以及区分癌细胞与正常细胞。

2. Single operation palladium catalysed C(sp3)-H functionalisation of tertiary aldehydes: investigations into transient imine directing groups

UK researchers have shown that a variety of simple amine derivatives promoted the palladium catalysed direct β-C-H arylation of aliphatic aldehydes. The amine derivatives formed transient imine directing groups to encourage aldehyde C-H arylation, in a single synthetic operation. These findings could be useful for the future development of directing groups to be formed transiently to promote C-H functionalisation.


英国伦敦帝国理工学院的研究人员报道了一系列简单的胺类衍生物促进的脂肪醛在钯催化下的直接β-C-H键芳基化反应。在单次的合成操作中,胺类衍生物形成瞬态亚胺导向基团促进醛的C-H键芳基化。这些发现有助于在将来进一步开发瞬态形成的导向基团,以促进C-H键官能化反应的研究。
