Preparation of a superior Co4Mo12/Al2O3 hydrodesulfurization catalyst by the hydrothermal deposition of heteropoly compounds on Al2O3

This article proposes a heteropoly-compound hydrothermal deposition method for preparing a Co4Mo12/Al2O3 hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalyst. The proposed method improves the dispersibility of Mo12O302-OH)10H2[Co(H2O)3]4 (Co4Mo12) on Al2O3 by hydrothermal deposition. Direct sulfurization without calcination weakens the metal-support interaction and improves the stacking of MoS2 slabs. Furthermore, the intimate contact between Co and Mo atoms and the high Co/Mo ratio in Co4Mo12 guarantee a high concentration of active CoMoS phases. Consequently, the Co4Mo12-based catalyst presents higher activity for dibenzothiophene (DBT) HDS than do its counterparts prepared via incipient wetness impregnation.
