Electrochemical detection of graphene oxide

Graphene oxide – a precursor of graphene and an ingredient of numerous multicomponent materials – forms a suspension in water. Here, we demonstrate that injection of a graphene oxide suspension to a flowing solution of sulfite anions results in the formation of reduced graphene oxide, which adsorbs on the electrode surface and catalyzes electrooxidation of sulfite anions. The peak current, recorded in a Flow Injection Analysis system with chronoamperometric detection, is proportional to the concentration of graphene oxide in the injected sample.
