Abstract Multiplexing measurement has two well-known drawbacks – photon noise inapplicability and limited denoising capability – making it easily replaceable by a high-performance detector. Using a self-multiplexing with small-order coding matrix, we report a noise-type-free denoising measurement to address the limitations of photon noise and the denoising capability of the detector. Simulations and experiments show that multiplexing could break the limitations caused by detector capability, photon noise, and low light making it an unreplaceable unique solution in some applications.
