Each year, more than 400 000 ventral hernia repairs (VHR) are performed in the United States.1 Multiple randomized clinical trials2 have shown that laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR), compared with open repair, can decrease surgical site infections and hospital length of stay with no difference in hernia recurrence. Despite this, less than one-fourth of ventral hernias (VH) are repaired using a laparoscopic technique.1,2
