The Minireview describes various syntheses of β‐hydroxy‐γ‐vinyl‐γ‐lactone and different strategies for using this important building block in the synthesis of various natural products. The vinyl bond of the lactone has been strategically contemplated as allyl donor in Pd‐catalyzed allylic arylations and in a cascade Prins‐Ritter reactions.
