Efficient and exclusively NIR-emitting (λem = 780 nm) [Ir(CˆN)2(OˆO)]-heteroleptic complexes with β-diketonate- or pyrazolonate-typed OˆO-chelate ancillary

Abstract Considering the importance of NIR-dyes especially with the emissive proportion to 100%, in this work, we reported series of [Ir(dpbq)2(O^O)]-heteroleptic Ir3+-complexes 1–4 (Hdpbq = 2,3-diphenylbenzo[g]quinoxaline) with typically NIR-emitting (λem = 780 nm) phosphorescence, featuring the 3LLCT-dominated and the less 3MLCT transitions’ nature. Especially in dependence on the pyrazolonate-O^O ancillary incorporation while irrelevant to the –CF3 electron-withdrawing effect, the complexes 3–4 are more efficient (Φem = 1.9–2.5%) than the β-diketonate-assisted complexes 1–2. This result expectably improved by the following structural optimization, renders [Ir(dpbq)2(O^O)]-heteroleptic Ir3+-complex system a new avenue to typically NIR-emissive emitters.
