Enhancement of the Hydrothermal Stability of WO3/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 Catalyst by Silica Modification for NH3-SCR

Hydrothermal stability of catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR) is essential to develop a promising candidate catalyst for removing NOx emitted from diesel engines. The hydrothermal stability of WO3/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 catalyst has been significantly improved by introducing SiO2 into Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 during the process of hydrothermal treatment in the condition of 10 vol % water vapor at 800 °C for 10 h. The results of XRD, Raman, N2 physisorption, TEM, XPS, and H2-TPR characterizations demonstrate that SiO2 could effectively inhibit the formation of Ce2(WO4)3 and the sintering of the catalyst during the hydrothermal aging, correspondingly; the surface acidity and redox properties of the SiO2-containing catalyst are maintained after hydrothermal aging. Consequently, SiO2-modified catalyst displays better hydrothermal stability than WO3/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 after the same hydrothermal treatment.
