Matt graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 2005. He earned his BS degree in chemistry at Texas Southern University while simultaneously playing college football. After spending 2 years as a high school chemistry teacher and coach, he decided to deepen his understanding of the universe by studying chemistry in graduate school. In 2017, he earned his PhD in chemistry from Rice University under the advisement of Zach Ball. From there, he went on to do his postdoctoral research under the tutelage of Eric Anslyn. Matt is now an assistant professor of chemistry at Prairie View A&M University.
