Abstract Using the Anderson-Schulz-Flory theoretical model and its modifications, it was shown that hydrocarbons of oil, gas and bitumen can be formed from carbon oxides and water by the polycondensation mechanism, which we called “geosynthesis”. However, unlike other known reactions of polycondensation synthesis of hydrocarbons from carbon oxides and hydrogen, the chemical formula of geosynthesis must necessarily take into account the catalytic properties of the geological environment.
