The Effect of Hydrogen Peroxide on the Synthesis of Terephthalate‐Based Metal‐Organic Frameworks

The cover feature shows a novel synthetic route for improving the formation of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). This route is triggered by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to promote the formation of terephthalate‐based MOFs of MIL‐53 and MIL‐68 types. Following the standard synthetic route, chains of terephthalate bridges form first, thus delaying the synthesis of the MOF. However, the presence of H2O2 promotes the early formation of μ‐hydroxo bridges and then terephthalate ligands link aluminum‐containing species to give rise to the μ‐carboxylate bridges between metallic atoms, leading to a faster growth and high yield of the final MOF.
