Alterations in glucose metabolism and shikimate pathway affected by transient overexpression of CsPAL gene in postharvest citrus fruit

Previously, we have shown that four phenylalanine aminolyases () in citrus fruit were involved in resistance to green mold through increased phenolics. Further, in transcriptome data, many genes expressed in the sugar metabolism and shikimate pathways were found to be significantly up-regulated in the overexpression groups. Therefore, this study explored the changes in these pathways during the process of overexpression of triggering disease resistance in fruit. It was found that the expression of important genes and enzyme activities in the sugar metabolism and shikimate pathways were up-regulated, various sugar contents were changed, and most amino acid contents were increased during the process. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that during the transient overexpression of on citrus to improve fruit resistance to green mold, the sucrose catabolic synthesis process, glucose catabolic utilization process, and shikimate pathway were activated, various sugar contents were significantly changed, and amino acid contents were increased.
