A zwitterionic hydrogel of PCL composite is synthesized by a situ free radical polymerization method and a impregnation method. The PCL composite hydrogel has a gradient pore structure, which may accelerate the transport of water molecules, increase the loading capacity of LiCl and enhance the photothermal property. The optimal composite hydrogel (PCL-42) may produce fresh water of 2.71 kg kg−1 by outdoor adsorption at nighttime and solar-driven desorption at daytime.
