Resonance-Enhanced Wideband Grating for Efficient Perfectly Vertical Coupling

In this letter, we propose and experimentally validate a resonance enhanced center-symmetric structure to increase the optical bandwidth of waveguide grating couplers. Our experimental results demonstrate state of the art performance in increasing the 1dB optical bandwidth of perfectly vertical grating couplers to 121 nm for standard single mode fiber.
