Effects of thermoforming parameters and layup on unidirectional reinforced amorphous thermoplastic composite surfaces

Surface quality is a critical issue for thermoplastic composites to be used in a variety of visible applications. A set of trials has been set up by means of Design of Experiment and executed to determine the effects of thermoforming parameters on the achievable surface quality of unidirectional reinforced amorphous thermoplastic composites. The surfaces were measured by white light profilometry, standard key figures were derived and statistically analyzed. The results show significant effects of the investigated parameters as well as potential for further research.
