Physician burnout has reached alarming levels, with 63% of US physicians reporting feeling emotional exhaustion or depersonalization1. The use of electronic health records and the burden of clinical documentation are seen as major factors contributing to this issue. Physicians, administrators and medical societies are searching for solutions to address this epidemic. One potential solution being considered is the use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI models like ChatGPT. However, we are concerned that this technology may threaten ground truth, propagate biases and further dissociate clinicians from their most human skills.
