A photodecarboxylation-elimination reaction of various substituted maleimides is described, with convenient wavelength tunability through modulation of the maleimide substituents. These versatile reagents, which are readily constructed and diversified by nucleophilic substitution reactions on bromomaleimides, offer enticing new opportunities for triggered photorelease.
