Efficient adsorption and photodegradation of various organic dyes over B-doped TiO2-x

Here, we find that B-doped TiO2-x prepared via a one-pot method exhibit excellent performance on adsorption and photodegradation of various dyes. The B-doping extends the light absorption edge to 520 nm and its major role is the adsorption of organic dyes, while Ti3+-doping is responsible for the light response at 500–800 nm and > 800 nm and contributes more for the dye degradation. >15 dyes were investigated and high adsorption efficiency was achieved for cationic dyes without -COOH/-SO3H groups. Besides electrostatic adsorption, direct bonding of = N+(CH3)2 with B/B-O sites play an important role in enhancing the adsorption capability.
