A stable quasi-underpotential Mg stripping/plating chemistry (UPMC) on Zn substrate is initially achieved in new adiponitrile-based hydrated eutectic electrolytes (HEEs), realizing ultralow UPMC overpotentials and high energy/voltage plateau of aqueous rechargeable Mg batteries.
