Potassium doping carbon nitride: Dramatically enhanced photocatalytic properties for hydroxyalkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)‑ones with alcohol under air atmosphere

A series of potassium-modified carbon nitrides (K-CNs) were prepared by KCl/LiCl molten-salt method, showing enhanced catalytic activity, optical absorption, and improved electron-hole separation than the corresponding carbon nitride (g-C3N4). The synthesized K-CN as a heterogeneous photocatalyst shows excellent catalytic performances in hydroxyalkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones under visible light irradiation in the air at room temperature. This is the first environmentally friendly visible-light-driven strategy for the activation of the α-C-H bond of alcohols to react with quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones under mild conditions.
