Matrix Algorithm for Calculation of the Reflection and Transmission Coefficients for the Incidence of Two Counterpropagating Waves on a Multilayer Structure

Abstract

An algorithm is proposed for implementation of the matrix method for the problem of the incidence of two counterpropagating waves on a stepped multilayer waveguide structure. An algorithm for calculation of the resulting matrix in which the next matrix elements are sequentially obtained from the previous ones is based on the equivalent circuit of a multilayer structure in the form of a two-port circuit. The application of the proposed algorithm in the problem of the wave reflection from and propagation through a linearly increasing barrier with variable length is considered. The dependences of the reflection and transmission coefficients on the barrier length are obtained, and their monotonic or oscillating type determined by the relationship of the wavelength and the geometrical parameters of the structure is revealed. The interference nature of the phenomena under consideration is noted, and recommendations for solving of practical problems are proposed.
