Abstract

The systematic changes of a complex of characteristics of diamonds from the Udachnaya pipe with depth was studied: the habit of crystals, their surface morphology, color, presence of inclusions, and spectroscopic characteristics (IR, PL, and EPR). An increase in the intensity of the processes of their dissolution and etching, plastic deformation, as well as the processes of aggregation of structural nitrogen impurities with depth of diamond occurrence was shown. It is assumed that these changes occurred at an intermediate stage in the formation of the Udachnaya pipe under the conditions of a magma chamber.
