Electromagnetics Going Beyond! [Editor鈥檚 Comments]

In our antennas and propagation community, the prefix “meta” (beyond) became popular not in recent times, and the matter has little to do with avatars! Engineers are always glad to push boundaries, and what’s better than going beyond the limitations of natural materials and surfaces for enabling mind-blowing new devices? Thus, there is probably no surprise that the field of metasurfaces has shown in recent years an incredible potential for great impact in our field and beyond. This issue of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine (APM) will be a great occasion to learn more about this exciting topic as we are featuring quite a rich special issue on “electromagnetic metasurfaces.” For this, we are grateful to Prof. Antony Grbic and Prof. Stefano Maci, who have done an impressive job in collecting a stunning set of excellent contributions written by top researchers in the field. Their efforts in presenting a diverse set of articles that provides a wide and complementary view on this discipline have truly been remarkable and thus, dear reader, you can now sit comfortably and enjoy a great trip to among one of the hottest topics of our domain.
