On the basis of preparing the samples containing various single types of inclusions, the novel experiments using confocal laser scanning microscopy were designed to in situ observe the transient evolution of inclusions morphology and size during the modification process from Al₂O₃ and MgO–Al₂O₃ to low-melting point CaO–Al₂O₃–(MgO), in which the disaggregation of large-sized Al₂O₃ clusters by Ca treatment was detected for the first time, resulting in the reduce of inclusions size in melts.
