Spectral transmittance and luminance factor of the binocular separation glasses for stereotests using random-dot stereograms

We investigated the spectral transmittance of binocular separation glasses for stereotests using the random-dot stereogram technique to know the brightness of the field of view with the glasses. Red–green [TNO stereotest 19th edition (TNO ST)], red–blue [JACO stereo test (JACO ST)], and polarization [Randot Preschool Stereoacuity Test (RPST)] binocular separation glasses were employed. The luminance factor in the red–green binocular separation glasses [TNO ST] was 2.7% and 7.8% on the green and red lenses, respectively, i.e., the red–green binocular separation glasses [TNO ST] had a 2.9 times difference in the luminance factors of the green and red lenses. The luminance factor of the red–blue binocular separation glasses [JACO ST] 16.5% and 13.6% on the blue and red lenses, respectively. The luminance factor of the polarization glasses [RPST] was 38.7% and 39.6% on the right and left lenses, respectively. The red–green binocular separation glasses [TNO ST] had a large difference between the luminance factors of the right and left lenses, which might worsen stereoacuity.
