Synthesis of the Silver(I) Complex [Ag2[B12H12]]

Abstract

A method has been developed for synthesis of high-purity silver(I) complex [Ag2[B12H12]] through pyrolysis of NaВН4–KВF4 mixtures at 300–450°С without using organic solvents, which involves the complex precipitation from a solution with silver nitrate and subsequent silver regeneration from an AgNO3 excess. All stages of synthesis have been monitored by means of chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and NMR. The results of the study may be in demand in basic and applied chemistry of polyhedral boron compounds.
