Oil and oil products belong to the naturally occurring radioactive materials-ΝΟRΜs. In the present study, the radiological status around an oil shale power plant, based on natural radionuclides 238U, 226Ra, 232Th and 40K, is discussed, presenting their spatial and temporal variation in sand and sediment samples collected in the Kavala Gulf (Greece). The measurements were performed by γ-ray spectrometry during two seasons in 2019 and 2020 and the values were compared to that of a reference site and literature data. Moreover, radiation risks were estimated by determination, and the results showed that the radiation hazard due to oil-NORMs was moderate.
