Towards the estimation of concrete intrinsic permeability

This paper presents the development and evaluation of a practical, adequate, and appropriate means of estimating the intrinsic permeability of concrete. The study is based on the author's own experimental results and observations reported in literature. A correlation model between effective and intrinsic permeability is developed, and a means of estimating intrinsic permeability for planned concrete elements from material and mix properties is investigated. The multiplicative effect of compressive strength and coarse aggregate content is shown. Although various multiple linear regression models are considered, it is shown that practical simple linear regression models can be considered for the estimation of intrinsic permeability of existing or planned concrete elements.
