The main synthetic strategies to convert cyclic imides into polycyclic amine derivatives are revised. These synthetic routes have been classified according to their key features: N-acyliminium ions-based reactions, electrophilic activation of imides, use of strong nucleophiles, radicals-based methods, and miscellaneous strategies.
