Preliminary Results: Effect of Methyl Jasmonate and Riboflavin Applications on Amino Acid Content of Three Red Table Grape Cultivars

In this study, the effects of foliar methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and riboflavin (Rbf) applications to three red grape cultivars on total protein and amino acid contents were investigated. Total protein contents and amino acid pattern differed significantly depending on the cultivars. It was determined that the most abundant amino acid was glutamic in ‘Prima’ and ‘Lival’ cultivars, and arginine and proline in ‘Michele Palieri’. While MeJA and Rbf treatments increased the protein content of ‘Prima’ cultivar, they decreased the protein content of ‘Michele Palieri’. MeJA increased the content of 13 amino acids (aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, arginine, alanine, proline, tryptophan, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, phenylalanine, lysine) in ‘Prima’ and two amino acids (aspartic acid, methionine) in ‘Lival’ and only one (aspartic acid) in ‘Michele Palieri’. On the other hand, seven amino acids of ‘Lival’ and 14 amino acids of ‘Michele Palieri’ were decreased by MeJA treatment. Compared to MeJA, the number of amino acids induced by Rbf was lower, being aspartic acid, glutamic acid and arginine in ‘Michele Palieri’ and only arginine in ‘Prima’.
