ABSTRACT

Digital preservation is often framed as a technical problem. While there certainly are technological challenges in digital preservation there are other significant issues as well. These include intellectual property related factors as well as economic concerns. In this paper we look into some of these challenges and consider how they impact digital preservation—especially as it relates to software preservation and web archiving.
