Articles in this special issue of IEEE Design&Test describe ways in which computation can be moved closer to memory to improve throughput and reduce power. As is so often the case, evolution has beaten us to it. The article by Staudigl and Ejlali notes that our brains have computation and storage integrated into our neurons. The architecture in our heads is not split into memory and functional units. You will not find a data bus inside your skull.
