Studying the Sorption Processes of Rare-Earth Elements with the Use of Sulfocationites from Nitric Acid–Phosphoric Acid Solutions in a Pulsed Column

Abstract

The kinetics of sorption and regeneration from industrial nitric acid–phosphoric acid solutions with the use of ion-exchange resins like KU-2 has been studied for both individual rare-earth elements (REEs) and their mixtures with the measurement of sorption and regeneration isotherms. The high rate of the mentioned processes enables the use of these resins in pulsed columns with a fluidized resin bed. It has been shown that the efficiency of sorption columns can be improved by decreasing the volume of equipment and a one-time sorbent load. It has been established that the specific solution flow rate (10–12 m3/(m2 h)) in a pulsed column is 4–5 times higher than in standard columns with a continuous sorbent bed. The use of pulsed columns provides a six- to sevenfold decrease in the one-time sorbent load. The measured data of on the sorption of REEs on sulfocationites may be used for the design of industrial pulsed columns.
