Doubly Q-switched and mode-locked laser at 1.3 μm using acousto-optic modulator and molybdenum selenide

A doubly Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) laser at 1.3 μm with an acousto-optic modulator and molybdenum selenide saturable absorber is presented. Stable QML pulses with repetition rate of 1 kHz are obtained. The variation in output characteristics with pump power is investigated. A pulse energy of 550 μJ and a Q-switched envelope width of 155 ns are achieved at 12 W. Compared with those in the singly QML state, the Q-switched envelope width is reduced by 92% and the pulse energy increases 33 times in the doubly QML state.
