The synthesis of 2D mesoporous Mo carbides/nitrides for catalytic hydrogen production was realized by a series of organic–polyoxometalate co-crystals (O-POCs). These metal–organic precursors enable to create Mo-based electrocatalysts composed of abundant nanocrystallites and heterojunctions with tunable micro- and nanostructure and mesoporosity, therefore resulted in high HER activity and stability in both alkaline condition and seawater.
