Removal of tetracycline from wastewater by Fe-modified oyster shell

Abstract

A synthetic adsorbent (FS) that can be used in constructed wetlands to removal Tetracycline (TET) from wastewater was obtained by co-precipitation of iron and oyster shell. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the oyster shells showed rough surface and layered structure, while the characteristics of FS were shown by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Adsorption efficiency of FS was influenced by particle size and HCl concentration. The experimental results revealed that FS with particle diameter of 20–30mm and HCl concentration of 0.6 mol/L had the highest TET removal rate. The results of study presented that FS was recognized as a low-cost, effective adsorbent.
