ABSTRACT

We empirically examine the impact of economic growth on air pollution and the regulating effect of urban governance. The results show that there is an inverse “U” relationship between economic growth (GDP) and regional sulfur dioxide(SO₂) emissions, and urban governance have a weak regulating effect. Further research has found that extensive growth at the expense of the environment can cause an increase in the profitability of regional enterprises, which is more obvious in state-owned and state-controlled enterprises. In this paper, we embed urban governance into the analytical framework, enriching the research literature on environmental governance, and providing empirical evidence for relevant policy setting.

我们实证检验了经济增长对空气污染的影响以及城市治理的调节作用。结果表明，经济增长（GDP）与区域二氧化硫（SO ₂）排放量呈倒“U”型关系，城市治理的调节作用较弱。进一步的研究发现，以牺牲环境为代价的粗放式增长可以导致区域企业盈利能力的提高，这在国有和国有控股企业中更为明显。在本文中，我们将城市治理嵌入到分析框架中，丰富了环境治理的研究文献，为相关政策制定提供了实证依据。
