The mutual influence of the sulfur groups in 1,3-dithia compounds is especially obvious in conformationally constrained 1,3-dithianes. Oxidations with different oxidants are investigated experimentally by NMR spectroscopical analysis and by calculation of activation barriers and stereoelectronic effects by using quantum chemical methods.
