In the article by Redd et al, “Therapeutic Inhibition of Acid Sensing Ion Channel 1a Recovers Heart Function After Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury,” which published online on July 15, 2021, and appears in the September 21, 2021, issue of the journal (Circulation.2021;144:947–960. DOI: 10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.121.054360), a correction is needed.


Di Xia, PhD was mistakenly omitted from the author list. The authors regret this oversight. Di Xia’s contributions to the manuscript were as follows:


Di Xia carried out gene editing on the iPSCs to generate the knockout of ASIC1a shown in Figures 1 as well as Supplemental Figures 2 and 3. The final methods provided for the initial publication acknowledged the Queensland Facility for Advanced Genome Editing for this work. However, the work by Dr Xia was a more substantial intellectual contribution to the study. In particular, the specific gRNAs used for the ASIC1a KO were used in a program of work designed to enhance gene editing efficiency in iPSCs that required major method development partially outlined in Supplemental Figure 3.


Dr Xia’s contribution enabled knockout of >98% of alleles in a single transfection. This level of efficiency enabled efficient progress in the experimental work required for revisions of the manuscript. In particular, this cell line was used to respond to reviewer comments requesting data on cell-specific genetic loss of function to demonstrate that ASIC1a is functionally involved in mediating cardiomyocyte cell death in response to ischemia-reperfusion injury.


Dr Xia provided all methods related to gene editing of ASIC1a knockout iPSCs including the intellectual expertise for maximizing gene editing efficiencies for knockout of ASIC1a.


Dr Xia provides approval of all results, methods, and conclusions of the final publication.
