A Microfiber-Based Sensor for Simultaneous Measurement of Acetaminophen and Temperature

A fiber-optic sensor based on a microfiber coupler (MFC) for dual parameter detection of acetaminophen and temperature is proposed. The microfiber structure is manufactured by hydrogen-oxygen flame-heating technology. The characteristics of the transmission spectrum were studied theoretically and experimentally under conditions of different acetaminophen concentrations and temperatures. Acetaminophen concentration detection sensitivities of 102.4 pm/( μmol/mL) and -0.01 dB/( μmol/mL) in the range of 10 - 50 μmol/mL, as well as temperature sensitivities of -0.32 nm/°C and -0.001 dB/°C, were obtained for the proposed sensor. These results indicate that the photonic sensor has potential as a tool for pharmaceutical quality control and hospital wastewater treatment.
