Among the multitude of challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, one is whether prolonged symptoms after COVID-19, also referred to as ‘long COVID’, should be considered an occupational disease. The All Party Parliamentary Group on Coronavirus recently put forward this proposition to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson [1], proposing a compensation scheme with the same attributes as the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) [2]. The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) has issued an update indicating that at the present time, they are not recommending ‘proscribing’ COVID infection but continue to monitor the data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) [3].
