High power and high efficiency single-frequency 1030 nm DFB fiber laser

We demonstrate a 1030 nm single-frequency distributed feedback (DFB) fiber laser based on a 50 mm long fiber Bragg grating, inscribed in a Yb-doped glass fiber. Both of dual-polarization and single-polarization single-frequency is achieved by twisting the DFB fiber. The measured maximum output power is 154 mW for dual-polarization and 92 mW for single-polarization operation, and the slope efficiency shows an increasing trend, reaching 30% and 22% respectively. Moreover, the spectrum at the highest power shows an excellent optical signal to noise ratio of about 75 dB. These results, to the best of our knowledge, show the highest output power and highest efficiency among the reports that achieve single-frequency 1030 nm DFB laser output in either dual-polarization or single-polarization.
