The Cover Feature shows double strand DNA monolayers on the gold electrode surface stored for a long time in aqueous solutions in the absence and presence of ectoine, compatible solute. The use of polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy allowed to follow both the electric potential and time dependent changes in the conformation, orientation and hybridization state of DNA helices. Our results demonstrate that in monolayer films, the addition of compatible solutes, such as ectoine, to the electrolyte solution may have a protective effect on dsDNA stability over time.
