In UO2 suspensions containing 10 mM HCO3 and 0.6–2 mM H2O2 the rates of H2O2 consumption and uranium dissolution increase when 1 M Br is added. This is partly attributed to ionic strength effects reducing the repulsion between highly negatively charged uranyl-peroxo-carbonate complexes and the negatively charged UO2 surface and partly to reactions between surface-bound OH. and Br.
