A giant Er16-containing arsenotungstate K28H74[{Er(H2O)3}4{Er(H2O)}2{Er(H2O)2}2{As2W19O67(H2O)}4{AsW9O33}2{W2O6}4][{As2W19O67(H2O)}4{AsW9O33}2{AsO2}2{W2O6}4{{Er(H2O)}2{Er(H2O)2}6}]·227H2O (1) was prepared via the reaction of metastable raw material K14[As2W19O67(H2O)] and Er3+ ion, which was further characterized by IR spectrum, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP) and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Structural analysis revealed that 1 consists of “wave” type [{Er(H2O)3}4{Er(H2O)}2{Er(H2O)2}2{As2W19O67(H2O)}4{AsW9O33}2{W2O6}4]50− (1a) and [{As2W19O67(H2O)}4{AsW9O33}2{AsO2}2{W2O6}4{Er(H2O)}2{Er(H2O)2}6}]52− (1b) unit. The photoluminescence spectrum of 1 shows the characteristic emission peak of Er3+ in the near-infrared region.
