A set of gold nanoparticle-based affinity labeling probes multivalently presenting different electrophilic groups and a carbohydrate ligand was synthesized to evaluate their reactivity against lectins. The p- and m-isomers of arylsulfonyl fluoride groups together are promising alternatives to photoreactive groups as protein-reactive affinity labels for target identification studies.
